Russia’s ALROSA sells $358.2 mln worth of uncut diamonds in Jan

MOSCOW, Feb 7 (PRIME) -- The revenue from uncut diamond sales of diamond producer ALROSA amounted to U.S. $358.2 million, the company said in a statement on Tuesday.

Polished diamond sales amounted to $7.28 million, which makes the total diamond sale revenue of ALROSA amount to $365.4 million, which is 60% more than in the same period a year ago.

“The first month of the year, in accordance with our expectations, saw quite an active demand for diamonds in almost all segments of the market. It is evident that the diamond cutting sector of India is coping somewhat faster than expected with the troubles caused by a currency reform in this country,” Vice President Yury Okoyomov said as quoted in the statement.

ALROSA sold 40.1 million carats of diamonds in 2016 for revenue of more than $4.3 billion.
